If you’re shopping for an electric car in Streetsboro, Ohio, it’s a good idea to get a Kia. Like their gasoline-powered stablemates, Kia’s electric vehicles can deliver a great blend of performance, comfort, technology, and value. Currently, the Korean auto manufacturer has two all-electric models in its lineup, the Kia Niro and Kia EV6. Let’s take a closer look at these two models to see if they can meet your expectations.
2022 Kia Niro EV
The 2022 Kia Niro EV is a subcompact crossover SUV. It attracts many vehicle buyers because of its outstanding fuel economy, spacious seating, and impressive tech features. It’s a versatile SUV that can perform well as both an urban commuter and a road trip vehicle. The following is a detailed description of the latest Niro EV.
Niro EV Trim Levels and Prices
If you decide to buy the 2022 Kia Niro EV, you can opt for the EX or EX Premium trim. The entry-level EX comes with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $39,990, while the EX Premium starts at $44,650. Since an all-electric vehicle qualifies for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500, you can expect to pay significantly less for this Kia model.
Niro EV Performance and Range
The new Kia Niro EV has an electric motor with 201 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque. With this powertrain, the Niro EV can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in about 6.2 seconds, which is impressive for an electric crossover. Whether you’re cruising around town or going on a long drive, this SUV won’t feel underwhelming.
Additionally, the Niro EV has a high-density 64-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery that enables the SUV to travel up to 239 miles on a full charge. The Niro EV delivers a fuel economy rating of 123/102 mpg-equivalent (city/highway). If you use a Level 2 charger, it takes approximately nine and a half hours to recharge the vehicle. A 50-kW DC fast charger can charge the battery up to 80% in an hour and 15 minutes, whereas a 100-kW unit needs only an hour to do the same.
Seating and Cargo Space for the Niro EV
Despite being a relatively small vehicle, the Kia Niro EV is surprisingly spacious on the inside. This five-seater SUV offers 41.7 inches of legroom in the front row and 36 inches of legroom in the back row, making it one of the roomiest in its segment. It also has a comparatively large cargo capacity, 53 cubic feet if you fold the rear seats.
Even the base model of the Niro EV has a great selection of comfort and convenience features. These features include cloth and faux-leather upholstery, a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a push-button start.
Infotainment and Safety Features for the Niro EV
Aside from its solid performance, excellent fuel efficiency, and comfortable seating, the 2022 Kia Niro EV also features a long list of standard features to provide you with a connected and enjoyable driving experience. It offers a user-friendly UVO infotainment system, an 8-inch touch-screen display, a four-speaker sound system, USB ports, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
To help you stay safe behind the wheel, the Niro EV comes standard with driver-assistance features like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, and pedestrian monitoring. Your Niro EV will also have lane-keeping assistance, lane-following assistance, lane-departure alert, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic warning, automatic high-beams, driver-attention alert, and lead vehicle departure warning.
2022 Kia EV6
The 2022 Kia EV6 is the first dedicated electric vehicle from Kia. It’s one of the 11 new electric vehicles the automaker plans to build by 2026. Let’s find out more about this highly anticipated crossover.
Trim Levels and Prices for the EV6
Debuting in the 2022 model year, the Kia EV6 will be available in three trim levels: the base model, GT-Line, and the top-spec GT. Kia hasn’t announced official prices for the EV6, but experts believe the SUV will start at around $45,000.
EV6 Performance and Range
The Kia EV6 uses either a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive powertrain or a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. The rear-wheel-drive version produces 167 horsepower with the standard 58-kWh battery and 218 horsepower with the available 77.4-kWh battery. An all-wheel-drive model, by comparison, comes with a larger battery and generates either 320 or 576 horsepower. The 320-horsepower EV6 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds, while the 576-horsepower GT trim reduces the sprint time to a mere 3.5 seconds.
On a full charge, the EV6 can travel up to 230 miles with the small battery and 300 miles with the larger battery. If you hook the crossover up to a Level 2 charger, you can refill its battery from 10% to 100% in about seven hours. A 350-kW fast charger can recharge the battery from 10% to 80% in less than 18 minutes.
EV6 Seating and Cargo
With a wheelbase as long as that of the three-row Kia Telluride, the Kia EV6 features a cavernous cabin. Both rows of seats have ample legroom and headroom. In addition, this SUV has a larger cargo capacity than most of its rivals. It offers 28 cubic feet of storage space with the rear seats upright and 54 cubic feet with those seats folded.
EV6 Infotainment and Safety Features
The 2022 Kia EV6 has two curved 12-inch displays: an infotainment touch screen and a digital gauge cluster. The vehicle also offers popular tech features like a Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless device charger, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. You’ll also have access to advanced safety features such as automatic high-beam headlamps, automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, lane-keeping assistance, and rear cross-traffic warning.
The 2022 Kia Niro EV is already available at dealerships, while the 2022 Kia EV6 should hit showrooms early next year.
